Permit To Carry And Renewal Class

Minnesota Permit to Carry classes are offered through The Hunters Den. The class consists of 7+ hours of classroom instruction from a Minnesota approved training organization and a certified NRA instructor, with supporting videos and text book materials. Topics covered are safe operation and carrying of your firearm along with conflict avoidance, requirements to use of deadly force, law enforcement encounters, and legal obligation when carrying a firearm. Shooting requirements include a live range shooting exercise. The class fee is $90.00, which includes a $50.00 non-refundable deposit.
Permit to Carry Classes Offered By The Hunter's Den

You will need to bring…

  • Your own gun (Handguns may be rented from the Hunter's Den)
  • Ammunition (bring 50 rds.)
  • Eye protection
  • Hearing protection

In the case of severe weather or bad roads condition - class will be rescheduled. The class will last about 7+ hrs. Rolls and coffee are provided. You may bring a lunch.


New Handgun Class

First Steps Beginners Class

Never fired a handgun before?

The NRA has a beginner’s course called FIRST STEPS that is designed for the novice shooter and is a good place to start for both men and women. It is approximately 3-4 hours long and covers the basics such as nomenclature, safety, operation of a handgun, and concludes with the opportunity to fire several handguns on the range. The class fee is $65.00, which includes a $35.00 non-refundable deposit. So if you are interested in learning some valuable skills, this class is for you!


Handgun Skills Class

This customized class is aimed for those that want to advance their basic handgun skills. This is not a classroom course, but a practical range course that is designed around the proper technique and execution of the fundamentals of operating their handgun.  This is a live fire course on the range with repetition to get a student comfortable, and more important, safe in the draw, shooting and holstering of their handgun.  The following is a brief overview of what is covered:

- Proper grip, sight picture & trigger reset
- Mechanics of a safe draw and holstering
- Shooting from the draw
- Types of magazine changes
- Types of malfunction & clearing techniques
- Shooting on the move
- Engaging single and multiple targets
- Strong & weak hand only shooting
- Turn and shooting
- Weapon retention
- Plus many other points in the use of a handgun

This course is designed to get the student familiar with presenting, operating and firing their handgun in a skill set for everyday use and a possible reactionary situation. 

Equipment required to attend this course is a concealment garment such as a vest or jacket, a handgun, minimum of 2 magazines or speed loaders, a magazine or speed load holders, a strong side holster, if an IWB holster it must have a re-enforced mouth, no other variations of holsters are acceptable, and 200 - 300 rounds of ammunition.  For those that do not own a handgun or the required gear, it can be provided for a minimal fee on the day of the class if prior arrangements have been made with The Hunters Den.

For the student to get the most from this course, it is limited to a maximum of 8 students per class. The class fee is $100.00, which includes a $50 non-refundable deposit.


ATV Safety Training Class


Cost: $15.00 (deposit required to sign up for the class)
Description:
DNR Certified ATV Safety Training Class
Requirements:

  • Anyone born on or after July 1, 1987 must take this course to ride an ATV
  • Student must be 11 yrs old before class start date in order to be eligible to take the class
  • Student must have the ATV CD done before class starts

The required ATV CD can be picked up at The Hunters Den in New Ulm, from the DNR (1-800-366-8917) and ask for the ATV Training CD or contact the Instructor Steve Rykhus via the information below.

You will need to bring…

  • Business size self addressed STAMPED envelope (to have your card sent to you)
  • Proper gear and helmet
  • Homework and regulation book, there will be a written test in class

You may bring your own ATV, but it must be in good working order and must fit the individual riding the machine.

Hunter's Den Snowmobile ClassSnowmobile Class

Description: DNR Certified Snowmobile Safety Class     

Requirements:

  • Anyone born on or after December 31, 1976 must take this course to ride a snowmobile
  • Student must be 11 yrs old before class start date in order to be eligible to take the class
  • Student must have the Snowmobile CD done before class starts

The required Snowmobile Safety CD can be picked up at The Hunters Den in New Ulm, from the DNR (1-800-366-8917) and ask for the Snowmobile Safety CD or contact the Instructor Steve Rykhus via the information below.

Archery Class

Cost: $10.00 (deposit required to sign up for the class)

Description: DNR Certified Archery Class

Must have Firearm Safety completed before attending this class!

This class is for both beginning and experienced bowhunters and covers the basics along with some advanced bowhunter skills.  Successful completion of this class fulfills the requirements of states and special hunts which require certification in the International Bow Hunter Education Program or similar bowhunter training.


Firearms Safety Class

Cost: $15.00 (deposit required to sign up for the class)

Description: DNR Certified Firearm Safety Class

Requirements:

  • Anyone born on or after December 31, 1979 must take this course to purchase a license.
  • Student must be 11 yrs old before class start date in order to be eligible to take the class
